The Associate Director, Private Assets Risk will be responsible for the strategic oversight and risk management of a growing alternative investments portfolio that includes private credit, private equity, and real estate. The ideal candidate is an experienced investment professional with direct exposure to managing private assets within reputable multinational asset management firms.

The main objective of this role is to develop a comprehensive and robust risk framework for private assets, identifying and addressing intrinsic risks such as liquidity risk, valuation risk, leverage, complexity, and concentration. You will be expected to assess investment strategies, processes, fund structures, and valuation models to ensure rigorous risk monitoring and control. Collaboration with key stakeholders across Finance and Investments functions is essential, facilitating a consistent and forward-looking approach to private asset risk management across the group.

Key responsibilities include leading risk assessments on new, complex private asset investments and providing risk insights to senior decision-makers. You will also conduct independent risk reviews of existing holdings to enhance portfolio oversight, remain updated on market and regulatory developments, and act as the point of contact for all private asset risk matters. The role also entails managing specific ad-hoc projects as required by senior management or in response to external changes.

Success in this role will be measured by your ability to deliver timely and insightful risk opinions, implement a sound risk framework, ensure effective governance, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and business units.

Candidates must have over 10 years of relevant experience in private assets risk management at a leading institution. In-depth knowledge of insurance asset allocation and the role of private assets in solvency, liquidity, and financial metric considerations is crucial. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the capacity to articulate complex issues clearly to diverse audiences, are essential. Professional qualifications such as CFA or CAIA are preferred, and being a qualified actuary would be advantageous.
