The Legal Counsel, Insurance contract supports the legal team of a leading insurance organisation by providing maternity leave cover. The role involves handling commercial contracts, regulatory matters, governance, and insurance-related legal work in a short-term capacity. It offers broad exposure to various legal areas with responsibility for supporting day-to-day legal operations.
Key Skills & Experience
- Qualified lawyer, preferably admitted in Hong Kong or another common law jurisdiction
- Legal training and relevant commercial contract review experience
- Experience in insurance, financial services, banking, corporate, or regulatory legal environments
- Strong drafting, contract review, and legal research skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese
Role Overview
The role involves conducting legal reviews of contracts, marketing materials, and policy documents, and preparing responses for legal review. The candidate will support legal research, regulatory mapping, and assist with documentation related to governance, reinsurance, and claims. Collaboration with internal stakeholders to facilitate legal reviews and maintain documentation records is essential. The position requires an immediately available candidate or someone able to join before October 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct first-level review of contracts, marketing materials, policy documents, and client communications
- Prepare contract mark-ups, comments tables, issue lists, and draft responses for legal review
- Support legal research, regulatory mapping, and internal legal summaries
- Coordinate document versions, review timelines, stakeholder comments, and follow-up actions
- Assist with governance, reinsurance, distribution, claims, litigation, and HNW documentation
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to facilitate legal reviews and maintain documentation
