We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our client's team as an Officer / Senior Officer in Life Underwriting. This role offers the opportunity to assess and evaluate life and medical insurance applications, ensuring that decisions meet underwriting standards and align with the company's risk management guidelines. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring smooth and accurate underwriting processes while delivering high levels of service to clients and intermediaries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and underwrite new life and medical insurance applications according to established guidelines and risk protocols.
- Review application documents, conduct risk assessments, and make sound underwriting decisions based on actuarial principles and medical underwriting criteria.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, intermediaries, and medical professionals regarding underwriting issues and queries.
- Support the development and refinement of underwriting policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and accuracy.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of underwriting trends, regional guidelines, and medical advancements relevant to life insurance products.
- Assist in training junior underwriters and provide support in complex case assessments as needed.
- Liaise with reinsurers for opinion on complex or large sum assured cases, where necessary.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Medical Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in life underwriting, preferably within the insurance or reinsurance industry.
- Professional qualifications such as FLMI, ALU, or equivalent certifications are highly advantageous.
- Solid understanding of underwriting principles, risk analysis, and medical terminology as applicable to life and health insurance.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills in both written and spoken English and Chinese. Mandarin proficiency is a plus.
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timeframes.
