Legal Counsel (Global Markets)
Our client is a leading financial services organisation known for its collaborative culture and dedication to innovation. This role involves advising on complex financial products, reviewing and negotiating key documentation, and working closely with internal teams and external counsel to ensure compliance and mitigate risk. The position is vital for maintaining the organisation’s legal integrity and supporting its dynamic global operations.
Role Overview:
This role is to provide specialised legal advice within the global markets team, primarily focusing on derivatives, structured products, commodities, and related financial instruments. The Legal Counsel will support the organisation’s trading and risk management functions by drafting and negotiating documentation and ensuring regulatory compliance across all activities.
Key Skills & Experience:
• Qualified solicitor in Hong Kong with at least 8 years’ PQE at a top-tier law firm
• Strong technical knowledge of derivatives, structured products, and related financial instruments
• Experience in onshore derivatives, initial margin negotiation, and OTC clearing is advantageous
• Solid client service skills and ability to deliver practical legal solutions
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify issues and work effectively under pressure
• Good team player with a flexible and proactive attitude
• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese; fluency in Mandarin is an advantage
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide legal advice on derivatives, structured products, commodities, precious metals, and other financial products
• Draft, negotiate, and review triparty, securities, derivatives, and repo agreements, including ISDA, GMRA, GMSLA
• Work closely with front offices, compliance, and risk management teams to deliver practical solutions aligned with business objectives
• Keep abreast of legal and regulatory developments relevant to the financial markets
• Liaise with external legal counsel to facilitate legal advisory services and ensure regulatory compliance
Requirements:
• Qualified solicitor in Hong Kong with 8+ years’ PQE at a top-tier law firm
• In-house legal experience at leading financial institutions is highly beneficial
• Strong technical and client service skills
• Ability to work under pressure and resolve issues effectively
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Chinese; Mandarin fluency is an advantage
• Experience with IND Bank Inv Tier 2 is desirable
