Settlement Associate

This role involves supporting the settlement and clearing processes for various fixed income and structured products, working closely with internal teams and external counterparties. It is a vital position ensuring smooth settlement operations, risk control, and regulatory compliance within the organization.

Role Overview:

The Settlement Associate plays a key role in managing trade input, validation, settlement instruction preparation, and monitoring of settlement statuses. The position requires liaising with counterparties and internal teams to resolve settlement issues, overseeing funding forecasts, and ensuring regulatory reporting requirements are met.

Key Skills & Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in clearing and settlement, preferably within securities or brokerage firms

• Familiarity with settlement processes for fixed income products such as bonds, notes, treasuries, and MBS

• Knowledge of OTC derivatives and structured products is an advantage

• Good communication and teamwork skills, with proficiency in English and Chinese

• Strong analytical, detail-oriented approach, and ability to work under pressure

• PC skills and MS Office proficiency; experience with programming solutions (Python, VBA) is a plus

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform trade input, validation, and confirmation preparation for Fixed Income products, Repo, Reverse Repo, and Derivatives

• Follow up with counterparties for unsigned confirmations

• Prepare settlement instructions using clearing platforms such as Euroclear, CMU, and Fedwire

• Monitor settlement status, collaborate to resolve potential failures

• Prepare funding forecasts and liaise with Treasury for operational activities

• Validate coupon entitlements, follow up on coupon claims and principal recalls

• Conduct lifecycle validation of OTC positions, manage collateral, and initiate margin calls

• Conduct regular cash and stock reconciliations

• Update procedure manuals and strengthen risk control processes

• Ensure compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements, e.g., Hong Kong Trade Repository

• Handle ad-hoc projects as required

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in clearing and settlement

• Familiarity with settlement of fixed income products such as bonds, notes, treasuries, and MBS

• Knowledge of OTC derivatives and structured products (preferred)

• Excellent communication skills in English and Chinese

• PC proficiency, MS Office skills, and experience with workflow automation tools (Python, VBA) (preferred)
