We are seeking an experienced and motivated Underwriting Manager to join our dynamic team based in Hong Kong. This role offers an exciting opportunity to play a key part in driving underwriting strategy, assessing and managing risk, and ensuring profitable portfolio performance across a diverse range of insurance products. The successful candidate will oversee the underwriting team, provide mentorship, and ensure that underwriting guidelines and policies are followed with accuracy and consistency.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail, along with a deep understanding of underwriting processes and best practices. A minimum of 7 years’ experience in underwriting within the insurance industry is required, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role. A thorough knowledge of local regulatory requirements and industry standards is essential, as is the ability to make sound judgements and decisions under pressure.
This role demands exceptional leadership and communication skills, as you will be collaborating across departments to support business development, manage key stakeholder relationships, and contribute to the development of new products and pricing strategies. You will be tasked with monitoring the performance of the underwriting portfolio, identifying trends, and making recommendations for improvements or corrective actions where necessary. The role also involves contributing to audit and compliance processes to ensure operational integrity and adherence to company policies.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in insurance, finance, business administration, or a related field, with relevant professional qualifications such as ACII or ANZIIF being highly advantageous. Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required, while Cantonese and/or Mandarin skills are a plus. Candidates should be self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of working both independently and within a team environment. Experience with underwriting systems, data analytics tools, and risk modelling software would be beneficial.
