About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Casualty Underwriter with 1–4 years of relevant experience to join a dynamic underwriting team. The ideal candidate combines strong technical underwriting skills with polished communication, professional presence, and sound judgment. You will assess and price casualty risks, build broker relationships, and contribute to profitable portfolio growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite primary and excess casualty risks (e.g., general liability, products liability, contractors, umbrella/excess), in line with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
- Perform risk analysis, exposure evaluation, coverage review, and pricing using internal models, rating tools, and actuarial inputs.
- Prepare clear, concise underwriting rationales and documentation for referrals, audits, and compliance.
- Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers and clients while maintaining underwriting discipline.
- Manage a renewal and new business pipeline; prioritize submissions and meet service-level timelines.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, legal, and operations to optimize risk selection and portfolio profitability.
- Contribute to wordings review, endorsements, and manuscript wording development as needed.
- Maintain accurate data entry, file integrity, and reporting in underwriting systems.
- Represent the team in broker meetings, client presentations, and market events with a professional, polished demeanor.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging risks to inform underwriting strategy.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; progress toward industry qualifications (e.g., CPCU, ACII, CII, ANZIIF) is an advantage.
- 1–4 years of casualty underwriting experience (Insurer or MGA); open to strong candidates with related casualty experience in broking or underwriting support.
- Strong command of English with excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex concepts clearly and confidently.
- Professional presence and interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging with brokers and clients.
- Working knowledge of casualty lines, coverage forms, attachment points, and common endorsements.
- Familiarity with rating methodologies, exposure bases, loss picks, and basic portfolio metrics (LR, CR, ROL).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and underwriting/rating platforms; strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Analytical mindset with sound negotiation and decision-making skills.
