We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Underwriting Officer to join our client's team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing risk, making underwriting decisions, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. This role requires excellent analytical skills, sound judgment, and a thorough understanding of underwriting principles and industry practices.
The Underwriting Officer will work closely with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders to evaluate insurance applications and determine appropriate coverage terms. You will review financial statements, assess client risk profiles, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends and legislation affecting the underwriting process.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite insurance applications within delegated authority levels
- Analyse financial data and risk factors for individual and commercial clients
- Negotiate terms and conditions of coverage with brokers and clients
- Monitor portfolio performance and recommend adjustments as required
- Prepare comprehensive underwriting reports and documentation
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal guidelines
- Provide support and guidance to junior underwriting staff
Requirements
- Proven experience in underwriting within the insurance or financial services industry
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and policy terms
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to make sound underwriting decisions under pressure
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and underwriting software
- Diploma or degree in Insurance, Finance, Business or related field preferred
- Professional insurance qualification (e.g. ACII or equivalent) is advantageous
