We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Marine Claims Handler. This role involves managing a diverse portfolio of marine insurance claims including hull and machinery, cargo, protection and indemnity (P&I), and related marine liabilities. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of marine insurance claims processes and a solid understanding of shipping operations and maritime law.
Responsibilities include handling end-to-end claims processes, from intimation through to settlement, ensuring timely and effective resolution in line with policy terms and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for liaising with clients, insurers, solicitors, surveyors and third-party service providers, ensuring clear and professional communication throughout. Key to the role is maintaining accurate and comprehensive records, preparing reports, and managing internal systems effectively to facilitate claims tracking and auditing.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide technical advice and recommendations on claims strategy and settlement options, working collaboratively with underwriting and risk teams to ensure best practice is followed and claims exposures are minimised. You must possess excellent negotiation skills and be confident in managing contentious claims where appropriate.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience handling marine insurance claims.
- Strong understanding of marine policy wordings, shipping laws, and international maritime regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Cantonese or Mandarin is an advantage.
- Ability to manage multiple claims and prioritise workloads effectively under pressure.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficient in claim management software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Relevant insurance qualifications such as ACII or equivalent are preferred.
- Team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Customer-focused approach with a strong sense of professionalism and integrity.
