We are seeking a detail-oriented (Senior) Underwriter to join our Property & Casualty team in Hong Kong. The ideal candidate will play a key role in assessing and underwriting risks, developing new business, and maintaining profitability across a broad portfolio. This role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgement, and a collaborative approach to working with brokers and internal stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting commercial property and casualty risks within agreed authority limits, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and regulatory standards. You will evaluate new and renewal business, provide pricing analysis, and negotiate terms and conditions that align with portfolio objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and underwrite new and renewal property and casualty business, ensuring alignment with underwriting standards and risk appetite.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal teams.
- Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging risks, and implement corrective actions as required.
- Contribute to the development of underwriting strategies, products, and rate plans.
- Support the implementation of underwriting initiatives and participate in global projects as needed.
- Ensure all underwriting activity complies with applicable regulations and company policies.
- Provide coaching and guidance to junior underwriters, sharing knowledge and industry insights.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in property & casualty underwriting, ideally within a commercial or corporate insurance environment.
- Proven track record of profitable underwriting and portfolio management.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate complex risks effectively.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to build productive relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues.
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant market trends, legislation, and regulatory frameworks.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as ACII or ANZIIF (Senior Associate) are preferred.
- Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin is an advantage.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office applications.
