Our client is seeking an experienced Operational Risk Officer to join their APAC Global Markets Operational Risk Management (ORM) team, based in Hong Kong. This role focuses on managing and mitigating operational risk within the Global Markets (GM) business, supporting the implementation of the firm's risk framework across the Asia-Pacific region. The position requires strong collaboration with both first and second line of defence teams, as well as business stakeholders, to ensure effective risk identification, monitoring and reporting.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the operational risk profile of the GM division. Key responsibilities include conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, control testing, risk reporting, and ensuring compliance with regional and global risk policies. The role also involves leading or contributing to risk reviews of new products, initiatives and business activities, as well as participating in various governance forums.
Responsibilities:
- Provide independent oversight of operational risks across APAC Global Markets businesses.
- Assist in the execution of the operational risk framework, including risk assessments, control monitoring, and scenario analysis.
- Support analysis of risk events and perform root cause identification and remediation tracking.
- Facilitate the risk governance process by contributing to internal risk committees and engaging with key risk and control partners.
- Advocate and reinforce a strong risk culture across the front office and support functions.
- Contribute to regulatory responses and examinations related to operational risk matters.
- Support the rollout of risk initiatives and global strategic projects within the region.
- Prepare high-quality risk reporting and analysis for senior management consumption.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in finance, economics, risk management or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in operational risk, audit, compliance or control functions within a financial institution.
- In-depth knowledge of Global Markets products, services and associated business processes.
- Strong technical understanding of operational risk management concepts and regulatory requirements across the APAC region.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and investigative skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Proactive and self-driven, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple deliverables.
- Fluent in English; Mandarin and/or Cantonese skills considered an advantage.
