We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Underwriting Senior Officer to Assistant Manager to join our client's dynamic team in Hong Kong. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support underwriting operations and contribute to the development of effective risk assessment strategies. The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing, evaluating, and recommending underwriting decisions in accordance with company policies and industry regulations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underwriting within the insurance or financial services industry and demonstrate solid analytical, organisational, and communication skills. This position requires someone capable of handling complex cases, engaging with intermediaries, and providing mentorship to junior staff when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and assess individual and group insurance applications in accordance with relevant underwriting guidelines and risk assessment protocols.
  • Handle cases within assigned authority limits and refer escalated or complex risks to senior management when required.
  • Collaborate with sales, claims, actuarial, and reinsurance teams to ensure a cohesive approach to underwriting practices.
  • Support the implementation of new products and underwriting initiatives by contributing to policy development and procedural improvements.
  • Provide training, coaching, and support to junior underwriting staff to maintain high service standards and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements in all underwriting activities.
  • Prepare and analyse underwriting reports and provide updates to management regarding risk trends and underwriting performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant underwriting experience in insurance or financial services.
  • Professional qualifications (e.g. LOMA, FLMI, or ANZIIF) will be advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment techniques, and industry regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with underwriting systems and workflows.
